Description
Bucktail is one of the most common natural materials used in tying jigs and streamers. Our premium tails have naturally long fibers making it great for tying baitfish 3-4″ long.
Tying Tip #1: The hair closest to where the tail attaches to the deer is the most hollow. Hence, when you tie it in it will tend to flare out. It also has the most under fluff needing to be cleaned out before lashing onto the fly. Patterns where you do not want the hair to flare, such as Clouser Minnows, try to use hair that is closer to the tip of the tail. This hair is less hollow, longer, and will sit straighter on the hook.
Tying Tip #2: Use a hair packer to align the tips of the bucktail if a cleaner, fuller look to the fly is desired. For a sparser look, leave the tips unaligned.
