The numbering of the reel (either 1/2/3 or 3/4/5) indicates the Trout Spey Rod size they are designed for. In terms of a switch rod, the 1/2/3 will handle a 3 weight switch rod. The 3/4/5 works well on a 4, 5 or 6 weight switch rod.
