9/26/2024 Fishing Report

The coho season is still going but we can feel a change about it. There are less fresh fish rolling in and the numbers aren’t what they were the last couple of weeks. The fall rains are getting more frequent and heavier as well. As we move into the last chapters of the season, watch the weather and get out and take advantage of the dry spells.

Sheep Creek still has coho. Quite a few of them are actually up in the mouth of the stream. There are also moving schools of fish out by the channel marker but not in the huge quantities of mid September. Darker flies are often working well. The legendary Black & White Dolly Llama has enticed quite a few reluctant coho. Polar Starlite Leeches have fished well if you are looking for a lighter fly to cast.

If you are looking for a fun option that doesn’t include bringing fish home, coho are moving into the lakes as well. Dredge Lakes and Windfall Lake are two excellent spots. The fish may be colored up but they grab flies and pull hard. The lakes are also likely to fish well even during stormy weather.

Late season trout fishing is very good as well. Cowee Creek in particular has good Dolly and cutthroat fishing right into mid to late October. The lakes also turn on as these trout look to fatten up before the lakes ice up in November. Keep your eye on the weather forecast and look for fishing spots that don’t easily blow out with rain.

The shop is open 6 days a week until mid-October. Stop by for any late season fly needs!
