Alaska Fly Fishing Goods Hosted Trip with Aleutian Adventures

This September, Alaska Fly Fishing Goods is hosting a small group trip to one of Alaska’s most remote, stunning and productive coho fisheries. The river is located in such a wild and pristine part of Alaska that it is often referred to as “The Last Frontier of the Last Frontier.”

The Sapsuk River (aka Hoodoo) is located on the very tip of the Alaska Peninsula just before the start of the Aleutian Islands. It is a clear, medium-sized, easy to wade river that is only lightly fished. We will be targeting coho salmon right out of the ocean. They are renowned for their acrobatic jumps, hard fights and willingness to take a swung fly. That’s right, coho on the swing! While most coho fisheries are a “cast it out, strip it in” situation, there is ample water on the Sapsuk that is perfect for swinging. The river is easy to read, has long slots and beautiful tailouts.

Which brings us to another exciting opportunity: fishing coho with a Spey and/or switch rod! If you have ever wanted to get experience fishing a two-handed rod, this is the place to do it. The casts needed are not long and the fish are abundant enough that if you miss a grab, you’re likely to get another chance in short order. You’ll definitely want to bring your 9’ rod, too, as it will be ideal for stripping flies and chugging in surface poppers.  Having the ability to switch between single hand and two-handed rods will keep the week interesting and fun. As an added bonus, Alaska Fly Fishing Goods will be bringing several demo Spey rods for our group to fish. Your guides as well as the trip host can provide two handed casting instruction and tips.

The trip will take place September 23-30, 2026. The coho run is at its peak and towards the end of the week, we may get a shot at some of the Sapsuk’s legendary fall steelhead.

The group size is limited to 6 and AFFG owner Brad Elfers will be there as the host. We’ll fish two anglers to a boat and experienced guides will provide all assistance needed. The camp is small, simple and comfortable. You’ll eat well, sleep in a warm fixed tent, and be only steps away from fishing.

Aleutian Adventures has extended AFFG a special reduced rate for the week. Six days of guided fishing, meals, accommodations, and a charter flight from Anchorage for $8000. The standard rate is $8750. This is a remarkable price for such a remote and unique fishery.
