7/11/2024 Fishing Report
The rain yesterday and last night was much needed and will make for some killer fishing. There should be a nice push of salmon when the streams rise, and the Dollies will be aggressively eating eggs. Since it is early in the egg drop, you should be fishing fresh looking beads. Orange clear, Montana, peach and tangerine can all be good color choices. Try 10mm beads when the water is high and off colored but drop back down to 8mm once the water levels drop again. If you haven't tried painting beads with Troutify Bead Paint you are missing out. The different shades will give each bead a slightly different look. Try it for yourself today.
There are still some chums being caught in the salt, but the numbers are slowing way down. Sheep Creek is the best spot right now for catching sheer numbers of fish. The chums are plentiful and there are Dollies eating eggs behind them. Try fishing your beads without weight here to avoid constantly snagging chums. Water levels will rise and fall quickly, so get it now for the best fishing.
We haven't heard many reports on pinks other than a few here and there out at Echo Cove and the Shrine. This rain should help bring some more around. These two spots' fish best on the incoming tide. Stay tuned next week when we announce this year's coho contest!
As always, we love featuring your photos for our fishing reports. If you have a great fish, scenery, or action photo that has to do with fishing around town send it our way! You can email photos or videos to cory@alaskaflyfishinggoods.com. Please remember to handle fish with care, especially if you are practicing catch and release. Consider getting a net with a rubber basket to help land fish quickly, pinch your barbs and keep them in the water until you are ready to snap a quick photo.
See you on the water!
