7/20/2023 Fishing Report
What a stretch of weather. Summer is in full swing and there a fish all over. At this point it probably more difficult to find somewhere you can't catch a fish than somewhere you can! The saltwater has been quite good with pinks and chums all around the channel and out the road. Standard Humpy Hookers have been doing the trick. If you want to fish the salt, Thane, Echo Cove and the Shrine are all great locations.
Most reports of the creeks around town this last week have been very low water. With not much of a snowpack left up high and soaring temps (for us at least) the local streams have been boney to say the least. The one exception to this in Cowee Creek out the road. Since it runs partially glacial is remains higher when it is hot and sunny. This is where I fished last weekend personally and it was extremely good. you can tell it still early in the run as there aren't too many pinks and chums around yet. This didn't stop the Dolly bead bite from being hot and fresh colored beads were producing nice fish in good numbers. Neither myself nor my fishing partner tried flies, but I would guess they will also still work for the time being.
The little bit of rain from the last few days has gotten enough water in the creeks to bring in a bunch of salmon. Within the next couple days, the next shot of rain should bring in bigger Dollies and start the salmon spawn.
As always, we love featuring your photos for our fishing reports. If you have a great fish, scenery, or action photo that has to do with fishing around town send it our way! You can email photos or videos to cory@alaskaflyfishinggoods.com. Please remember to handle fish with care, especially if you are practicing catch and release. Consider getting a net with a rubber basket to help land fish quickly and keep them in the water until you are ready to snap a quick photo.
See you on the water!
