Description
Rod:
We chose the 9′ 0″ – 5 weight or 6 weight Echo Boost Fresh rod for this package. The Boost is a fast action rod more than capable of throwing leeches and fry patterns as well as roll casting bead and nymph rigs like a charm. And it will delicately lay out a dry fly during a hatch.
The 5 weight will offer a bit more delicacy and finesse. The 6 weight will handle heavier flies and windy conditions better. If you plan to fish Bristol Bay trout and Dolly Varden with this package we recommend the 6 weight.
Reel:
In Alaska, the reel actually matters. We chose the sturdy and time proven Sage Spectrum 5/6 Reel for its reliability and great value. It is a machined aluminum, large arbor reel with a sealed drag system. This reel performs well in tight rivers, long runs, and even in the saltwater, hands down one of our shop favorites.
Line:
We chose the Rio Premier Grand line for this rod package. The line is a weight forward floating line that is oversized by nearly one line size. This really helps load the Boost rod and is ideal for delivering heavy flies. The Grand is a two-toned line, so when you see the belly in your rod, you know it’s time to pick it up, false cast a couple times, and watch the line fly. Because of the heavy front taper of this line, it rolls out bead rigs with minimal effort.
The package comes with a rod tube, neoprene reel case, PowerFlex Trout leader, 20lb dacron backing, and lifetime warranty to the original owner. Plus we’ll throw in 3 good trout flies to get you rolling!
This rod package will save you $65 over buying everything separately!!!
