September SE Alaska Flies

September is the month of glory when coho (silver) salmon return to our local rivers. They can be targeted off of beaches, in the intertidal area and well up in freshwater. 

The king of coho flies is the Dolly Llama. A heavy weighted fly that is a chore to cast but performs like no other. Clouser Minnows in Chartreuse/White and Pink/White along with a variety of salmon leeches will round out your coho fly box. 

A stout 9 foot 16lb leader fished off of a floating line is just the ticket for targeting these brawny fighters. 

With this list you can change quantities, delete items you don't want, add other items and check out when you are ready. 

There will often be pink salmon and Dolly Varden still in the creeks particularly in early September. If you are looking to target them check out the July/August list for suggested flies and beads.
