The Hare Snare FISHES for coho! At first glance, it may not look like a lot (in fact we nicknamed it the Bag O Trash when we first got it) but it is an impressive fish catcher. Of course the Cerise and Tutti Fruiti are winners, but don't overlook the Black. It was a winner even for bright fish off the beach!

A selection of 32 sure-fire steelhead killers! While these flies were selected for the Situk River near Yakutat, they are equally effective all over the state. It took our local steelhead think tank quite a few evenings at the local watering hole to narrow the list down to these favorites.

For such a little fly, the Pink Klamath Intruder really makes an impression in the water. Swing this fly for small stream steelhead or any time when a small package with a lot of color is the order of the day.

Brett's Klamath Intruder is a mere 1 3/4" in length. It is tied on a tiny 15mm shank and has an Octopus #4 hook. If the hook gets damaged you can swap it out for a new one. It has tiny lead eyes so you will want to fish it with a sink tip line or a bit of weight to get it down.

Hartwick's Hoser in Pink is a favorite swinging fly in Alaska for fish that have just entered the rivers. Flowing marabou, grizzly hackle wings and subtle flash underneath are the perfect combination of all that steelhead love to eat. The tungsten conehead adds weight and is hidden just behind where the marabou is tied in. It also acts as a platform to keep the marabou from collapsing in the water. The fly is approximately 2 3/4" in length and comes ready to fish with junction tubing and hook.

Fish Skull Zonkers are a beautifully tied update of the classic baitfish pattern. The Ice Queen version has a nice flashy belly and a white wing/tail that make it stand out in murky water. What really makes this fly pop though is the red throat. Whether the fish thinks the red is a flash of the gills or bleeding bait, who knows? What we do know is that trout devour this color combination, especially when fished in stillwater, slow moving streams or in the estuaries. The keel weighted Fish Skull Head gives this fly a lot of motion when stripped.

Let this fly tumble in the current or retrieve it erratically and get ready for some crushing strikes. The Wounded Smolt is an articulated fly with a bead in the middle that adds just a touch of attraction. The big eye and gill marks act as a target for rainbows looking for a big bite. Overall fly length is 4 inches.

From the vise of a veteran Kenai River guide comes the Kenai Micro Flesh. When big and bold isn't getting it done, switch up to this deadly 1" flesh fly. It is subtle and washed out in hue but features a chartreuse butt that gives it just a hint of attraction.
